MIDRASH MISH MOSH is Aaron Alexander’s first release for the Tzadik label and he presents nine memorable compositions that explore the intersections of klezmer with thrash punk, free jazz and world rhythms. The music can be poignant and reflective at times but Aaron Alexander, who has performed with many of the greatest groups in the new Jewish Renaissance, from the Klezmatics to Hasidic New Wave, Klezmer Madness, Klezmerfest, Babkas, Klez-Jazz, is abstract and modern in his approach to drumming. Accompanied by a septet and special guest artist Randy Craft on rik, this installment of the Radical Jewish Culture label series represents a magic realism that recaptures a time and place when people were more friendly, things were more positive, and life was more fun.
