Signed on the dotted line of Radical Jewish Culture - [means it clearly is...] (celebrating Jewish culture and musical tradition), Midrash Mish Mosh is the first solo record for Aaron Alexander, a drummer well known for being at the heart of the Seattle underground musical scene before playing with many Klezmer groups, the most well known being the Klezmatics (with Frank London). Frank London has a strong role on this record along with many players at the heart of the scene like Fima Ephron and Greg Wall. Aaron's move to NYC was where he met the one-of- a -kind Zorn, who put out this record on Tzadik. The 9 tunes on Midrash are really excellent, a mix of speedy Klezmer, fast and rhythmic, along with amazing electric waves, a free Jazz that is complex and rich with the scents of drunken world music. [really, but you have to get the poetry....they mean the craziness of it] I must confess, what is surprising on this disc is the tasty mix, starting with Jewish musical culture at the base, and stretching to the most modern elements. Each tune has it's own power, it's own personality, and that is what makes this record one of the most exciting and attractive. I definitely recommend it to adventurous listeners interested in Jewish tradition and the mixing of styles.

Signé sur la division Radical Jewish culture (en hommage à la culture et l’héritage musicale juif), « midrash mish mosh » est le premier disque solo de Aaron Alexander, batteur reconnu au sein de la scène underground musicale de Seattle ayant joué avec des nombreux groupes de Klezmer, dont les reconnus Klezmatics (avec Frank London). Frank London qui vient d’ailleurs prêté main forte sur ce disque, avec de nombreuses personnes connus au sein de la scène comme Fima Ephron ou Greg Wall. L’installation de Aaron Alexander à NY a permis la rencontre avec l’incontournable Zorn, et donc la parution de ce disque sur Tzadik. Les 9 compositions de « midrash… » sont vraiment excellentes, à la croisée d’un klezmer vif, rapide et rythmé, couplé à des relents électriques surprenant, à un free jazz complexe et à des rythmes de world music chaudes et enivrantes. On peut l’avouer, ce disque étonne beaucoup grâce à ces mélanges savoureux, prenant autant la culture musicale juive comme base de départ, afin d’y inclure de éléments plus modernes. Chaque titres possèdent sa propre force, sa propre personnalité, et c’est ce qui rend ce disque un des plus attrayants et des plus excitants. Définitivement conseillé aux personnes ouvertes d’esprit, intéressé par l’héritage juif et par le brassage des genres….
